San Diego Getaway

Click through to see photos from the weekend!

I don’t know about you, but lately I have been struggling with burn out like never before. The juggling act of work and life keeps moving at a fast pace and the never-ending game of catch up tends to take a toll. Which is why a mini getaway was exactly what the doctor ordered. This past weekend my hubby and I took a couple days to do a trip to San Diego. The great thing about doing a trip like this, is that SD is close to home. We are lucky enough to live pretty close, so driving there doesn’t take long at all! Being a NorCal girl, I haven’t really explored the city as much as I should have since moving to SoCal three years ago. Luckily, my best friend was born and raised there so she had a ton of great suggestions for the weekend. Now if you know me, I can tend to be a homebody but the thought of trying new restaurants was something I couldn’t pass up! Here are some of the places we visited!

 Balboa Park

  • Always a must when visiting! The grounds provide a ton of museums and gardens to venture through. Right now, a lot of things are being renovated due to COVID, but we still had a blast and it looked they were opening back up soon! We even took the chance to watch a movie in the Dome Theatre at the Fleet Science Center. Also, if you’re like me then this a great place for people watching!

Kate Sessions Park

  • Alright, if you are looking for an AMAZING view of the city, then you have to take the drive out to this park. Be sure that you bring a blanket or towel to sit on the grassy slope with. Even though it was overcast when we ventured to the hill, the city was still gorgeous, and the atmosphere had a calming air to it. It reminded me a so much of Mission Dolores Park in San Francisco.

Sunset Cliffs

  • Ok if you take anything from this post, please promise me you will go here one day! This was probably my favorite thing that we did all weekend. Just sitting on the cliffs watching the waves crashing on the rocks was stunning. I can understand why so many take chairs out there to watch the sunset. If you’re lucky you might even see some Marine life swimming around or a surfer!

Little Italy

  • As the weekend ended, it was agreed that Little Italy was my place in SD. Just the whole vibe of this area screamed Caitie. I am definitely a girl who likes to chill with a glass of wine and eat lol. On Saturday, we had fun walking the farmers market and checking out the different vendors.

Restaurants

  • We had the best dining experiences by far that I have ever had. There were three in particular that stood out for the food, drinks, and atmosphere! If you are looking for an instagramable place then these three are it. Which makes sense because Morning Glory, Born and Raised, and Raised by Wolves are all under the same company. Out of the three, I think Raised by Wolves was my favorite. This speakeasy type bar seriously nailed it on the 20s library vibe. It felt like your were being transported back in time as you entered the hidden fireplace door. Seriously, the attention to detail was out of this world. Even the bathrooms were fantastically decorated! I would reccomend that you try and nab a reservation if you can because the wait can be hours long.

Safe it to say, I had a great time in San Diego and cannot wait for my next trip down. Let me know if know of any other great spots in SD in the comments below. I would love to hear all about your experiences.
