The Ugly Sketchbook
Ok folks, so I don’t know about you but one of my guilty pleasures is watching YouTube videos! Especially, while I am getting ready in the morning or cooking in the kitchen. I love coming across different artist, bookworms, and beauty gurus. As I was watching a fellow artist do a chat and draw with me, she mentioned that she had an “ugly sketchbook” Well my attention and ears perked up to that notion and I had to go back and see if I had heard her right! There was no way I just heard what I did. Well I’m telling you here and now that she did say it! She said UGLY SKETCHBOOK…. and all I can say to that is MIND BLOWN. Up till this point, I had never in my life heard of this concept. She said that it was her book that she could practice drawing things she wasn’t confident in, like anatomy. Saying that there were no expectations that she could just go crazy. It got me to thinking of how much pressure I put on myself to make each creation (even in my sketchbook) an amazing piece of art. I cannot tell you how many half drawn in books I own because I got frustrated too easily. The worst is when what I am drawing doesn’t come across like in my head. It’s part of the reason why it took a lot of courage to start this website. In my mind, I feel that my work or what I have to write is not up to par with the rest of the world. The saying “we are our own worst critics” comes to mind. So it is my hope that with my own Ugly Sketchbook I can start to grow confidence in my work and myself. This will definitely be a continuous journey but I am excited to start getting downright ugly in this pink sketchbook! And yes, this sketchbook has some drawings in it from a year ago so lets fill it up shall we!
